In the North, no problem is more difficult than logistics. Moving building materials, ore, crew, and supplies on- and off-site is both difficult and expensive to arrange. For existing operations, this can be a headache.
But even more troubling are the ventures that are discarded or never seriously considered in the first place due to the infeasibility of moving people and product to and from the proposed location. The vast reaches of the North are full of possibility, untapped.
We at Northern Dawn propose that the solution to this problem is undeniably the introduction of cargo airships as rapidly as possible. Unlike ships, there is no geographical constraint; unlike trucks, there is no time constraint; and unlike airplanes, there is no infrastructure constraint--no need for large and expensive runways.
Operating with up to 85% lower fuel usage compared to an airplane and scalable up to 100 tonnes per ship, airships are the single most promising transport vehicle for northern development. Accordingly, hundreds of millions of dollars have been invested worldwide in designing and creating the capacity to produce such massive aircraft for precisely these purposes.
The problem is not the vehicle; it is the environment.
Despite decades of research and thorough investment from governments worldwide, the cargo airship industry has not taken off. The reason for this is, in the opinion of Northern Dawn, that many of in the industry appear to be skipping steps in the process to introducing airships to Canada.
In fact, the single greatest obstacle to introducing airships to Canada is the absence of airships in Canada.
Airship regulations in Canada have not been updated in almost 100 years, and there is a profound shortage of capable pilots and technicians to work upon them. There are no existing hangars or repair facilities for airships, no school for training the next generation of operators. There is almost no operational experience in cold-weather airship flights despite advances in technology permitting it for the first time. Lastly, there is simply the risk of introducing multi-million dollar, untested vehicles into a supply chain.
All of these issues must be resolved before the commercial potential of airships is truly unlocked for northern operators.
We at Northern Dawn intend to do just that by purchasing a state-of-the-art airship capable of flying in temperatures as low as -20 Celsius and proving its viability one flight at a time over the Foothills and Calgary. Once that is demonstrated, we will expand into passenger traffic and eventually cargo in the North.
An investment in Northern Dawn is an investment in the future of your industry. Take a small risk with us, and guarantee a safe return on investment tomorrow.
